Husserl Circle Meeting: Chicago 2016

Secretary's Letter (April 08, 2016)

Dear Colleague,

Enclosed please find this year’s program together with a letter from the Convenor with information about the conference, including lodging and a link to a website dedicated to this year’s meeting.

I would like to take this occasion to remind presenters that you have 30 minutes and commentators that you have 10 minutes.

If you are not current with your dues, you will also find enclosed in the mailing a helpful reminder of your balance due. For the Circle to continue to thrive, it’s crucial that members remain current with their dues, independent of whether they are attending a given year’s meeting. Also, this year the bylaw legislated at last year’s business meeting, which requires first time participants on the program to pay dues, is in effect.

Pay your dues with PayPal:

Thank you and hope to see you in Chicago.

With best wishes,

Burt Hopkins, Permanent Secretary

Secretary's Letter (December 9, 2015)

Dear Colleague,

2015 Meeting Report:

The 46th annual meeting of the Husserl Circle held in Finland this past June was an immense success. Special thanks are in order to Mirja Hartimo, Sara Heinämaa, Joona Taipale, Simo Oinas, and Tuukka Brunila along with the Subjectivity, Historicity, Communality (SHC) Research Network (University of Jyväskylä, University of Helsinki) and the Philosophical Society of Finland. The organizers did a superb job of assembling a first-rate program and attending to every need of the many members and friends of the Circle in attendance. The level of presentation and discussion was once again very high.

The members voted at their business meeting to require all participants (including those participating for the first time) on the annual program to pay Husserl Circle dues. This new policy will go into effect this year. This policy supplements the current policy requiring members to be in good standing (current with their dues) for their submissions to be considered for the annual program.

The members also voted to accept Carlos Lobos invitation to host the Circle in Portugal for its 2019 meeting.

2016 Meeting:

The next meeting of the Husserl Circle, convened by Hanne Jacobs, will take place June 15-18 at the Water Tower campus of Loyola University in Chicago. A letter from Hanne with information about the meeting can be found below.

Future meetings of the Husserl Circle include the 2017 meeting at the University of Crete, Rethymon, Greece, hosted by Panos Theodorou and the 2019 meeting Portugal, hosted by Carlos Lobos.

Annual Call for Dues:

For your convenience a 2016 dues statement that reflects the current status of your membership is enclosed in the mailing.

Best regards,

Burt Hopkins, Permanent Secretary
