Next Conference, New York 2003:

Greetings to everyone!
You have no doubt received by now Burt Hopkins' announcement of the next
meeting of the Husserl Circle to be held here in New York at Fordham
University's Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan. The dates for the
meeting are June 12-15, 2003. (N.B. This is a correction; the dates in
the letter were incorrect.)
This note is a call for papers. Papers should have a reading time of no
more than 30 minutes. Anyone wishing to submit a paper should send it
(or a substantial abstract) directly to me (either by e-mail or regular
mail) so that it is received no later than March 15. A number of people
have already indicated that they intend to submit papers, so I must
insist on this deadline because it looks like we might not be able to
accommodate all papers and we shall need some time to make decisions.
Those decisions will be announced by April 15.
Fordham has rate agreements with several hotels in the area of Lincoln
Center, but the negotiations for the 2003 rates have not yet been
completed. I would expect that hotel rates will be somewhere between
$140 and $200 per night, depending on the hotel. There will be a few
(8) double rooms (hence, 16 persons) available in the Lincoln Center
dormitory at the rate of $45 per person per night. These rooms might be
an especially good option for those, particularly graduate students, on
a tight budget.
I shall communicate more about the hotel rates as soon as I find out
about them. In the meantime, please block the dates (again, June 12-15)
and remember: Deadline for papers--March 15.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in New York.
Best wishes,
John
Hotel Information
The following hotels have rate agreements with Fordham University. The hotel
rates are for single or double occupancy, so you might want to double up to
reduce costs. Be sure to ask for the Fordham rate.
The Mayflower Hotel
15 Central Park West (one block from Lincoln Center campus)
New York, NY 10023
(212) 265–0060
(800) 223–4164
Rate: $160.00/night plus tax
Helmsley Windsor Hotel
100 West 58th Street (about five blocks from campus)
New York, NY 10019
(212) 265–2100
(800) 221–4982
Rate: $160.00/night plus tax
N.B. You must reserve your room by May 11, 2003 to secure this rate.
Novotel New York
226 West 52nd Street (about ten blocks from campus)
New York, NY 10019
(212) 315–0100
Rate: $179.00/night plus tax
Fordham University McMahon Hall
Fordham has a limited number of double rooms (8) with space for 16 persons.
Anyone desiring such a room should let me know as soon as possible, and
there might be a need for people to double up with others for all the space
to be used. These rooms would be a particularly good option for those,
especially graduate students, on a limited budget.
Rate: $45.00/night (per person)
While only the Helmsley Windsor has a specific policy about reserving your
room one month before arrival to secure your rate, I would urge everyone to
book early, since New York hotels can get quite full in the summer months.
Finally, all know, I am sure, of the various Internet sites that offer
discount hotel deals (Quickbook.com, Hotels.com, etc.). You might want to
check some of these before reserving to see if there is a special deal
available in the area of Lincoln Center. At the time this document is
prepared, none of the discounters are offering rates better than those
available above.
